What is needed

We are now calling on volunteers and community partners to help us initially to achieve our goals. The development will take place in several phases and we would appreciate support in any phase where you are able to contribute.

Further below is a list of all the items we require to run an efficient project of this nature. Initially there are three phases in the implementation plan. Please let us know how you can contribute, whether volunteering, materials and or labour for constructions, food stock donations (both fresh and dry), money donations, or even just moral support.

Implementation Plan

Stage 1 – Site Security & Basic Infrastructure

  • Fencing and secure access
  • Gate installation
  • Cameras / alarm (if sponsored)
  • Water tanks
  • Grey-water / waste-water planning
  • Temporary shelter for rainy days and for the very hot summers

Stage 2 – Feeding Hub Set-up

  • Kitchen container installation
  • Stainless steel prep tops
  • Gas burners & cooking equipment
  • Utensils, pots, pans, water urn
  • Serving area with tables and benches
  • Shaded seating (trees or shade structures)


Stage 3 – Community Development

  • Establishing a food garden
  • Soil preparation & compost
  • Irrigation from rainwater tanks
  • Storage units for perishables & bulk goods
  • Basic life-skills and reintegration activities

The total package

1. Security

  • Fencing, gates
  • Security cameras and alarm system
  • Sponsor for security company monitoring

2. Water

  • Water tanks
  • Piping from gutters to fill up with rain water
  • Irrigation piping for the community garden
  • Water source: Municipal – requires application to the Municipality or Bore Hole

3. Eco gardening

  • Introduce permaculture system
  • Prepare soil
  • Plant trees for shade.
  • Gardening tools:
    • Forks
    • Spades
    • Picks
    • Rakes
    • Pruners
    • etc.
  • Materials: compost, ground cover, seeds and plants

4. Shelter

To shelter from the sun and wind, i.e Canopy, tent, awning, cover

A tent that can seat 50 – perhaps stretch tent

  • Container(s) – for storage
  • Wendy house – for storage


5. Meal serving and eating space

  • Benches / chairs
  • Tables
  • Or materials to build our own

6. Kitchen equipment

  • Stainless steel tops, pots, pans, water urn, kitchen utensils, etc
  • Gas cooking equipment

7. Storage

  • Storage room for non-perishables
  • Cool storage room for perishables
  • Cold storage room for bulk fruit deliveries

8. Signage and wayfaring

  • A name-board sign at the property
  • Wayfaring signs from the CBD for directions to the location

9. Printing Signage and wayfaring

  • Informative posters – which will be displayed at all shops and public places
  • Brochures
